A renowned South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the metropolis of Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation grappling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on a Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the 40-year-old media personality was accosted by three suspects, with one shot at him before escaping on foot.
The motive behind the incident is unknown and no suspects have been apprehended have taken place, as per the official statement.
Details of the Attack
Police revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was leaving a premises near the city center landmark.
He had devoted time at the property managing the implementation of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by unidentified individuals, according to reports.
"Authorities believe the victim was approached by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they shot at him before fleeing the scene on foot," an official report said.
Surveillance tape reportedly depicted a suspect with dreadlocked hair and wearing what looked like a security uniform firing shots on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but fell down on the opposite side of the road.
Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and no items were stolen during the attack.
