Fast bowler Atkinson Exacerbates the English team's Injury Concerns.

'Serious blow' for the English camp after Atkinson goes off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson increased the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the playing area on the second morning in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson experienced discomfort in his hamstring immediately following a delivery of the fourth over on Saturday.

The England team stated Atkinson felt some "soreness" and was to take time on the sidelines for further assessment "in the coming hours".

The series decider of the tour at the SCG gets underway at the end of the week.

England have already lost fast bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was called up as cover for Wood.

His form was underwhelming in the opening two Tests, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was dropped from the previous Test, before being recalled for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.

Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, bagging two scalps in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman being one of only three England players who passed ten runs.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he came back the next day and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

Yet, at the end of that over, he sent down a slower ball to the batsman and promptly felt for his hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was recalled for the Boxing Day Test following his omission the previous Test.
