The United Kingdom is ready to advance with using the total value of immobilized Russia's holdings to aid the Ukrainian military campaign, PM Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a collective announcement, the leaders of the UK, France, and Germany emphasized that this joint measure would heighten pressure on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and compel the Russian Federation to come to the table.

They added that the initiative would be implemented in tight collaboration with the America.

British sanctions have immobilized over £25bn of Russian funds since Russia began its comprehensive attack against Ukraine in 2022. Yet, previously, money sent to the Ukrainian government using Russian funds had only been drawn from profits and interest earned on them.

Sir Keir assured Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and Germany were aligned in their goal to push forward toward using the complete amount of the seized Russia's state funds to halt hostilities.

He added that further sanctions in the coming days and weeks would increase the strain on the Russian government.

This announcement is subsequent to European Union leaders convened in the Danish capital previously to debate employing immobilized Russian holdings for a 140-billion-euro loan to Ukraine.

Last month, President Donald Trump encouraged G7 allies to confiscate or employ seized Russian holdings, as reported by news outlets.

The total of seized Russia's holdings in the EU is calculated to be almost €211bn.

The Russian government launched large-scale aerial attacks across Ukraine on that day, causing electricity outages in large parts of the capital city, the city, and multiple additional areas.

Two people were lost their lives and a minimum of 20 people were injured in the strike, authorities in Ukraine said.

In a message on social media after the strike, Zelensky commented that the cynical and calculated attack targeted civilian and energy infrastructure.

"What's needed is not empty words but concrete steps - from the America, Europe, and the Group of Seven - in providing defense mechanisms and applying penalties," he stated.

"All penalty impositions diminishes Moscow's military apparatus," Zelensky noted, in a different message.

Additionally that day, Zelensky stated to reporters he would encourage Sir Keir to enter the PURL programme, under which Nato countries buy military equipment from the US to donate to the Ukrainian forces.

While commending the United Kingdom's consistent assistance for Ukraine, he remarked it should demonstrate clearly that it would engage in the initiative, as well as enforce more restrictions on Moscow.
